A Kid Carrier... for Dogs?!

We realized something on the trail that completely changed the way we think about carrying injured or exhausted dogs.

The same compact kid carrier that helps parents get their children up mountains can also be the perfect tool for dogs. It supports their weight, distributes the load comfortably, and lets you keep moving safely when your dog suddenly can’t.

A kid carrier isn’t just for kids — the design solves the exact same problem dog owners face on the trail: what to do when your four-legged adventure buddy can’t walk another step.

It works. It’s secure. And when you need it most, it keeps you from risking injury trying to carry your dog in your arms.

A simple idea.

A huge difference on the trail.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What size of dog is Trail Magik best for?

The dog carrier works best for small to upper-medium sized dogs. Ideal size is dogs that are ~10-43 lbs.

I already have a backpack/pet carrier. Why would I need a Trail Magik?

Good question—here’s how this carrier adds value:

  • Lightweight emergency backup: If your dog gets injured, you can strap them in quickly.
  • Space saving: It’s much smaller and lighter than a full pet carrier you’d bring on an adventure, it’s so small, you won’t even notice it in your gear bag until you need it!
  • Versatility: Ideal for hikes, backpacking, and all outdoor adventures!
  • Comfort & effort saving: Regular dog carriers might be bulky, awkward, or heavy. This design lets you carry your pup in short bursts, while keeping your hands free and using a hiking backpack's support.
What kind of backpack do I need with my Trail Magik? Can I wear the Trail Magik Dog Carrier on its own?

Backpack requirements: You’ll want a hiking/backpacking pack with a sturdy waist belt and load lifter/upper strap webbing. The pack needs to handle the extra pull of having a dog attached up front. Testing was done on 30 Liters and larger.

On its own? No — this kind of carrier typically cannot support itself safely without being anchored to a backpack. The backpack’s straps & belt help distribute the weight so your shoulders and back don’t take too much strain.

Is the Dog Carrier safe? Has it had safety testing done on it?

Yes — safety is always our top priority. The Trail Magik Dog Carrier is designed for short-term rest breaks on the trail when your pup needs a little help or in emergency situations.

It’s built from durable, adventure-grade materials — strong webbing, quality buckles, and rugged fabric — but it’s not meant for extended carry or hands-free transport. The adult’s arms should still support the dog’s upper body to ensure comfort and to avoid putting too much pressure on the stomach or chest area.

Think of it as a trail assist, not a full-time ride — perfect for those “I can’t take another step” moments when your dog just needs a short lift before they’re ready to trot again OR a “we gotta get him back to the vehicle NOW” type of situation.
